It is difficult for me to pick a favorite fantasy from My Secret Garden. I adore Nancy Friday as the creator of literary pieces that shocked so many people and challenged the idea that women don’t fantasize. I think her work makes people very uncomfortable, which makes me like her even more. She is a true feminist icon for going against the grain and bringing women’s fantasies into the mainstream. With that being said, I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a single fantasy in any of her books. I find the abuse, violence, and racism difficult to get past. The themes in her books are either extremely taboo and intense, or vanilla and underdeveloped. I think Nancy Friday’s books are some of the most important books written on women’s sexual fantasies, but her themes are limiting and represent only the most controversial aspects of sex and kink.
